    Rehab assistance, please help

I just found this site today so I dont know what survey you are discussing. I am trying to get help/advice on how to help a nephew get off meth but we don't have rehab money . Other than educating myself via the net , tough loving him and prayer: I feel lost. Any experiences or ideas to share?.

    Hi Auntie J,

Your nephew is so blessed to have someone concerned enough about him to educate themselves on how to help him. Does he want to quit? If he doesnt see a need for change and has no desire to seek help or to at least try its going to be tough!

A lil bit about me. I was on meth for close to a decade. Totally tore my life apart, shattered the hearts of everyone who that loved me. I didnt care who got hurt, or how much trouble I got into, nothing mattered to me except this drug. I was actually a prisoner of this drug for about 3 years. I wanted to get off but could not, a repeating cycle of use, guilt, shame, use I thought I would live the rest of my life as a meth user. But here I am clean for almost 2 1/2 years and loving every second of it. My passion is no longer drug use, it is now my relationship with my God and a desire to help ppl find the freedom I have found. So if I can help you in anyway please feel free to email me at tanjidodd@hotmail.com. If nothing else I will join you in praying for your nephew.

Blessings! Hope to hear from you!

    Re: Rehab assistance, please help

    Dear Aunty J

First of all, welcome to the forum.  In addition to whatever help you find here directly, there are some resources available for those that don't have access to rehab/treatment.  I would recommend the following:

The first is the KCI forum.  This is comprised almost entirely of recovering meth addicts, or loved ones of those still struggling.  There are some really knowledgeable people on this forum and everybody is generous with their experience and knowledge.  After you register, just go into the "general discussion" area, introduce yourself and explain your situation.  You will probably get several replies to your post within less than an hour.  Here's the link to that forum:

     http://p073.ezboard.com/General-Discussion/fmethamphetamineabusediscussionforumfrm2

For educational purposes, there are two sites I always suggest and they are All Positive Options, and The National Institute On Drug Abuse (NIDA)  Both of these sites have a ton of information on methamphetamine, and addiction in general.  On the All Positive Options site, in addition to their Methamphetamine Section, I'd suggest you look at their "How To" section as well.  It has a variety of tutorials for people in your situation, including how to conduct an intervention, dealing with denial, selecting a treatment facility, how the addictive mind works, etc.

    Their addresses are as follows:

    All Positive Options

    http://www.allpositiveoptions.com

     NIDA

    http://www.nida.nih.gov/

And please let us know how you make out.

    Tara

    Re: Rehab assistance, please help

    Dear Auntie J,

Like your other reply, I have been off of meth since August 13, 2004. I am working part time and am attending WSU to get a degree in Psychology so I may help people that are in the same hell I have been in. It has become my passion to help the people that need it the most in this world.

I quit on my own, to the surprise of many. I have never attended a rehab unit. The reason I am telling you this is because I want you to know I didn't have the option for rehab either. I think the biggest help for me is that I moved away. That seems to make a lot of difference for a lot of people. I refuse to go to the part of Washington where I lived before because of it.

Moving away gave me the ability to distance myself and START over. Although it was difficult, and I didn't even want to leave my bed for 2 months, I had to soul search and find a reason to get out of bed and do some stuff even though at first  I didn't even enjoy it. Is there any way that your nephew can move???

Write me if you want to ask me anything, or just to vent or ask for advice.

I am replying to your message.  First of all have you ever heard of the phrase "  Where ever you go there you are"?  Well, just because you move that does not mean that your addict mind or addiction didn't move with you. Right??  There is alot more to this addiction thing than just quitting.  You have to change your thought process and the things that you do.  Because if you don't you become what is called a "Dry Drunk".  Not a fun place to be.  Ever thought that maybe your attitude is still scewed?  The way you speak to people may not be of the best edicate?  How you react to different things may be off?  Some food for thought....  There are certain steps that are suggested in the 12 step program that need to be followed in order to have the spiritual experience that the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous talks about.  If you don't follow these steps in the order that they are written then you are surely to drink or drug again.  Trust me, I have seen it many times in the past 3 yrs. But, of course you have a few people who will try and test the theory only to find out that they are headed for some trouble if they do.  Anyways I hope you learned something from this.

    Thanks,

    Angela
